Generally carports, even the cheap carports do not require any significant levels of maintenance work. The no maintenance requirement is one of the selling points for the cheap carports industry. Nevertheless, any investment requires some watchful eye on the investment and your cheap carport investment is no different. A brief watch on the condition of the carports can lead to cheaper repairs as opposed to replacement of the carport itself. Hence in my opinion, cheap carport maintenance is better than replacement of the entire unit. So what does maintenance involve when it comes to cheap carports?

Well for starters, give a thorough inspection every so often, for all components of your carport. The periodicity of this maintenance will obviously depend upon the climatic conditions where you live in general and in particular after a severe snow storm, wind storm or heavy pouring rain sessions, heavy hurricanes, tornadoes and such. Evaluate the condition of the support frame members to see if there are signs of corrosion, cracks and such. Any cracks in the members must be immediately fixed since it can lead to safety problems. Peeling or cracking paint layers should be fixed since corrosion weakens metals and can eventually lead to failure of the support members. Check the roof periodically. If you are simply using a tarp type material, then inspect for tears and fix them immediately. Check the condition of the concrete footing and repair cracks and crevices by local repair.

These are the basic inspection and maintenance issues with cheap carports. And if maintained properly, your cheap carport will give you satisfactory protection for a long time to come.
